Construction Code Library Officially Open

The new library celebrated with an open house on February 21, 2016

Congratulations and a great big “Well Done!” to Doug Kuhlman and all those who participated in the creation of the Southwest Michigan Construction Code Essential Standards Library!

In addition to Doug’s coordination, administrative, and membership efforts, Mike Alwine got all the necessary books together and Bauckham Sparks’ attorney Roxanne Seeber authored the library’s interlocal agreement. Now, building officials in over 20 townships and municipalities enjoy 24 hour key card access to all the essential building code resources they need, both on the shelf and on line.

Doug Kuhlman, Mottville Township Supervisor Brenda Hagen, attorney Seeber and Hartford Township Supervisor Ron Sefcik welcome township and building officials at the open house

“This is a great example of what can happen when municipalities work together,” says attorney Seeber.

“The cost to each of our members is far lower than if they’d purchased the essential standards on their own,” continues Kuhlman, “and they all have around the clock access to whatever information they need. It’s a win for everyone.”

The newly-stocked bookshelves are ready for building officials from over 20 municipal members!

The library, located in the Mottville Township Hall building, serves municipalities in Cass, Van Buren, and St. Joseph counties.

For information about joining, please call Doug Kuhlman at (269) 651-3130. Or, for information about the back story, don’t hesitate to call either Doug or attorney Seeber at (269) 382-4500.
