Background

Attorney Robert Thall has been with the firm since 1991. Rob is lead counsel for the Michigan Townships Association, and also serves as general or special counsel to many municipalities including cities, villages, townships, and sewer/water authorities throughout the state. He is a Michigan State University alumni and a graduate of Thomas M. Cooley Law School.

His practice includes all areas of municipal law. He is the firm’s lead attorney for water/sewer issues and tax issues. He also advises the firm’s clients on issues such as franchise agreements, the METRO Act, installment purchase agreements, real estate matters, bankruptcy collections, road funding and right-of-way related matters, assessing, tax tribunal, and other municipal finance matters. Rob offers invaluable insight into new legislation and trends impacting local governments and municipal law. He is regularly involved with the MTA on proposed legislation.

Rob has extensive experience representing municipal issues before the Michigan Court of Appeals and Michigan Supreme Court, and is sought out for his knowledge in municipal matters. He has authored numerous amicus briefs on behalf of the Michigan Municipal League and the MTA. He has even filed a brief representing local governments in the United States Supreme Court. Rob also frequently teaches classes for MTA and other municipal groups statewide.
