Randall L. Brown graduated from Thomas M. Cooley Law School, cum laude, in Lansing, Michigan, with distinction in 1982, receiving the Most Distinguished Student Award and thereafter was a law clerk for the Honorable C.H. Mullen before entering private practice.
Randy is general legal counsel for the City of Portage and has held that position for the past 27 years after serving as Assistant City Attorney for 9 years. As City Attorney, Randy addresses a broad range of legal issues on a regular basis, including matters concerning the Freedom of Information Act, Open Meetings Act, contracts, zoning issues, and prosecution, among many others. He is also the Village Attorney for the Villages of Mendon and Burr Oak located in St. Joseph County, Michigan.
Mr. Brown is a Director and past President of the Michigan Association of Municipal Attorneys and the Michigan Municipal League's Legal Defense Fund, as well as a member of various committees, including the Legislative Concerns Committee. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the Kalamazoo County Bar Association and is admitted to practice before all courts in Michigan. Randy also practices in the areas of real estate and business entities.
Randy lives with his wife in Portage, and is an avid tennis player and enjoys the sports of running, road biking and swimming.
