Background

Attorney Catherine Kaufman has been a practicing attorney for more than 30 years, and currently serves as lead counsel to dozens of townships across the State. Attorney Kaufman handles all aspects of municipal law, with a concentration in planning and zoning matters. She practiced as a city planner before attending law school. Attorney Kaufman is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and the Michigan Association of Planning.  She is active in statewide planning and municipal law organizations and is a frequent instructor on municipal issues for the Michigan Townships Association, Michigan Association of Planning, Michigan State University Extension, Michigan Association of Municipal Attorneys, ICLE, and the Government Law and Marijuana Sections of the Michigan Bar. Catherine is one of the leading attorneys in the state on the municipal regulation of marijuana and the Right to Farm Act. Catherine also served on the State of Michigan’s Medical Marihuana Advisory panel. She is a member of the Government Law, Marijuana and Real Property Sections of the Bar.
