Brien Winfield Heckman is an accomplished litigator with a focus on municipal and probate law. Brien joined Bauckham Sparks in 2019 as a Senior Associate. Before joining the firm, he had a robust private practice where he represented clients including the Department of Health and Human Services, professional fiduciaries, and various public entities.
Brien acts as general counsel and prosecuting attorney for clients in Southwest Michigan. He represents and counsels public entities on various aspects of municipal law including zoning, Freedom of Information Act, Opening Meetings Act, and Ordinance formulation. He works with clients to formulate solutions to problems in a timely and professional manner.
Brien represents clients in a wide array of estate planning and probate law matters. He holds a Probate and Estate Planning Certificate from the Institute of Continuing Legal Education. He practices in the areas of fiduciary representation, estate planning, and probate litigation. He currently serves as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the Health, Education & Family Services Division of the Department of Attorney General.
Brien has contributed to Michigan Lawyers’ Weekly and assisted with Michigan Township Association publications.
