Bauckham, Thall, Seeber, Kaufman & Koches P.C. traces its roots back more than 100 years to our founders, Dallas Boudeman, former Kalamazoo County Circuit Judge John W. Adams, and former Probate Judge Samuel H. VanHorn.

The firm’s current name arose over time, beginning in 1949, when John Bauckham joined Harry F. Smith in the practice of law. Mr. Smith had been practicing in Kalamazoo for many years at that time, with attorneys including Henry Kimball (a former member of Congress), and John W. Adams (who was admitted to the bar on January 1, 1890). From the beginning of their partnership, Harry Smith and John Bauckham represented a wide variety of clients, including a majority of the townships in Kalamazoo County. Mr. Bauckham became counsel for the Michigan Townships Association (MTA) at the time of its incorporation in 1953, and the firm has continued in that capacity ever since.

As the firm has grown and changed over the years, each attorney has developed specific areas of expertise in the practice of township law. By coordinating our efforts, we work to bring our clients a depth of knowledge and a breadth of experience that reflects the highest standards of professionalism.
